His writing was influenced by the social, cultural, and economic ambience of his adopted home city of Los Angeles. A new owner restored the property, and it is currently functioning as a multi-family residential compound, and literary tourist attraction. Henry Charles Bukowski ( / bukaski / boo-KOW-skee born Heinrich Karl Bukowski, German: han kal bukfski Aug March 9, 1994) was a German-American poet, novelist, and short story writer. Status report (2015): Ultimately, the Cultural Heritage Commission found that the property was worthy of preservation, and declared Bukowski Court to be HCM #912. The preservation campaign resulted in extensive press coverage, both of the landmark proposal and the accusation from the property owners’ attorney that Bukowski had been a Nazi sympathizer and unworthy of such recognition. Later that week, a young preservationist named Lauren Everett expressed interest in proposing the De Longpre bungalow as an Historic-Cultural Monument, and Richard and Kim agreed to support her efforts. Troubled by the thought that this literary landmark might be lost, Richard posted to his blog about the threat. In July 2007, as Richard Schave prepared to launch his tour dedicated to the poet and novelist Charles Bukowski, his wife Kim Cooper spotted a Craigslist ad listing the writer’s longtime East Hollywood home at 5124 De Longpre Avenue as a teardown. Hank and his wife, Sarah, agree to write a screenplay, and encounter the strange world of the movie industry. Its actually based on Bukowskis life and the events that lead up to and involve the making of his movie 'Barfly.' Its totally off the wall, but Bukowskis take on Hollywoods own particular brand of insanity is probably just as true today as it was when Charles Bukowski penned this masterpiece of the absurd.
